Sources and photo credits
EveryCow stands on the work of volunteers who document the world's animals in the open.
Facts
Wikidata (public domain, CC0) and Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0). Every breed page and country overview links to the article and the record it was written from.
Wording and attribution
EveryCow does not copy text. Breed pages and country overviews take their facts from the Wikipedia article named at the foot of each page and are rewritten in EveryCow's own words. A check compares each page with its source; any page that carries over more than a short phrase is rewritten before it is shown. Because the pages are adapted from Wikipedia, they credit the article and its contributors, link to the original, and are shared under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.
Photos
All photos come from Wikimedia Commons. Only freely licensed images are used: public domain, CC0, CC BY and CC BY-SA. Each photo on a breed page is credited beside it with its author and licence and links to its page on Commons. Small pictures in lists, cards and strips are credited at the foot of the page they appear on, under "Photo credits on this page", with the author, the licence and a link to the source. Photos may be resized; no other changes are made. If a photo is yours and should not be here, write to us and it will be taken down.
Drawings
The drawn animals (built from each page's lineage, purpose, coat, hump and horns), the studies of the hump, dewlap, horns and coat patterns, the height chart, the coat chips, the product rings and the step-by-step frames are drawn by EveryCow's own code from what each page says. Where no free photo exists, a drawing stands in for it. They are diagrams, not pictures of a particular animal, and they are free to reuse with a link back. No AI image generator is used.
Good reading
The articles listed under "Good reading" on a breed page are ones its Wikipedia article cites, from publishers and institutions such as Britannica, the BBC, the Food and Agriculture Organization, national breed bureaus and breed societies. EveryCow shows the headline and the publisher and links to the original; it does not copy the article.
Products, the calendar, places and concepts
Original text and drawings by the EveryCow desk, written with AI assistance. The shares in a product are a rough, illustrative ratio. Festival and fair dates are worked out by rule where one exists and otherwise taken from published calendars; days that follow the moon or a local calendar are marked "about" and can shift by a day.
Folk and traditional belief
Where a page describes what cattle, their milk or their dung are traditionally said to do, it reports the tradition and does not endorse it. It is not medical or veterinary advice.
Map
Country outlines are from Natural Earth (public domain). Towns, fairs, pastures and ranches are marked at the middle of the place.
News
The news wire shows only a headline and the outlet's name. Every link leads to the original publisher.
