A2 milk
Milk from cows carrying only the A2 form of the protein beta-casein; a description of its protein type.
Also: A2 beta-casein, A2A2
Beta-casein is one of the main proteins in cow's milk, and it comes in several genetic variants. The two most common, A1 and A2, differ by a single amino acid. Many European dairy herds carry a mix of both, while Indian zebu breeds such as the Gir, Sahiwal and Red Sindhi, and some taurine breeds such as the Guernsey, mostly carry A2. Milk sold as A2 comes from cows tested to carry only the A2 form. Some people believe A2 milk is easier to digest, and it is marketed in several countries on that basis; scientific reviews have not settled the question. The idea has also encouraged interest in native Indian breeds.
