Bull
An adult male bovine that has not been castrated and is kept for breeding.
Also: sire, saand, vrishabha
A bull is an entire, uncastrated male. Bulls grow larger and heavier than cows, with thicker necks and, in zebu breeds, much bigger humps. In most herds only a few males are kept as bulls; the rest are castrated for work or meat. One bull can serve a herd of thirty or more cows in a breeding season, and through artificial insemination a single dairy bull may sire hundreds of thousands of calves. Bulls can be dangerous, and those that are handled are usually led by a nose ring. In Hindu tradition the bull Nandi is the companion of Shiva, and Vrishabha, the bull, is a sign of the zodiac.
