Panchagavya
A traditional mixture of five products of the cow, used in Hindu ritual and in some farming practice.
Also: pancha-gavya, five products of the cow
Panchagavya, the five gifts of the cow, combines milk, curd, ghee, urine and dung in set proportions. In Hindu ritual it is used to purify people, places and images, for example before a ceremony, and it appears in older texts on purification and in Ayurvedic tradition. In recent decades some organic and natural farmers in India have used a fermented panchagavya as a spray or soil treatment, following a practice revived in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere. Followers ascribe further benefits to it; these belong to belief and tradition, and are not set out here as fact.
