Great Yorkshire Show
Four days of farming each July at Harrogate, where Yorkshire shows the Shorthorn and its other breeds.
Cattle at Great Yorkshire Show
The Yorkshire Agricultural Society held its first show in 1838, and since 1951 the Great Yorkshire Show has had a permanent showground at Harrogate. It now runs for four days from the second Tuesday of July. The livestock sections are among the largest in England, with beef and dairy cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and heavy horses, and the cattle lines include breeds with deep roots in the north. The Shorthorn was improved in the valley of the Tees in the late eighteenth century and spread from there across the world. Yorkshire farming also shows its dairy herds, whose milk goes into the county's cheeses.
The breeds
Also part of it, and being written: Dairy Shorthorn (The dairy line of the same breed.).
