Colour-sided
A pattern with coloured sides and white along the back and underside of the body.
Also: color-sided, sided
Colour-sided cattle have coloured flanks, often speckled or freckled where they meet the white, with a broad white stripe along the spine and white along the belly and often the tail. The pattern is typical of the Pinzgauer of Austria, chestnut with a white back and belly, of the Vosgienne of eastern France, of Norway's Telemark cattle and of the old Randall Lineback of Vermont. It is inherited through a dominant gene, and the white areas can vary from a narrow line to most of the body. The pattern is common in old northern and Alpine landraces, and it shades into the narrower white stripe of the lineback.
