Belted
Dark at both ends with a broad white band around the middle of the body.
Also: belt, Lakenvelder, sheeted
Belted cattle carry a clean band of white circling the barrel, between the shoulders and the hips, with solid colour in front and behind. The Belted Galloway of south-west Scotland, black, red or dun with its white belt, is the best known; the Dutch Belted, or Lakenvelder, of the Netherlands has the same pattern, as do the Belted Welsh and the Swiss Gurtenvieh. The belt is inherited through a single dominant gene, so the pattern shows strongly in crosses. Belted Galloways are often seen on conservation grazing schemes and in parks, where their markings make them easy to spot from a distance.
