Balmoral Show
Northern Ireland's main agricultural show, four days each May at Balmoral Park near Lisburn, with large cattle classes.
Cattle at Balmoral Show
The Royal Ulster Agricultural Society has held its show since the 1850s, at Balmoral in south Belfast for most of that time and since 2013 at Balmoral Park, on the former Maze site near Lisburn. Over four days in May it brings together the farming community of Northern Ireland, with beef and dairy cattle classes, sheep, pigs, horses and poultry, a food hall and machinery. Many breeds of cattle are shown, from the big continental beef breeds to the Irish Moiled, a native breed brought back from the edge of extinction. The interbreed championships on the final days draw the largest crowds round the ring.
The breeds
Also part of it, and being written: Limousin cattle (A leading continental beef breed in Ulster.), Aberdeen Angus (A popular native beef breed.).
