Brindle
A coat of dark stripes over a lighter ground colour, like the marks of a tiger.
Also: tiger stripe, bringé, streaked
Brindle cattle show irregular dark stripes over a red, fawn or brown base, so the coat looks streaked rather than patched. The Normande of France is known for its brindle markings, called bringé, and brindle is one of the recognised colours of the Highland. It also appears in Texas Longhorns, in some Nguni and other African cattle, and in Brahman and Hereford crosses, where the first cross is known in the American South as a tiger stripe. Brindle is inherited, though its genetics are less simple than those of solid colours. In a herd of mixed colours, brindle animals are often the easiest to pick out by eye.
